Meet Bunny Hay. Based in Augusta, GA, her soulful sound had me hooked from the moment I first heard her music. I had the chance to chat with her about her latest release with Lifted LoFi Records, “Dusa Dusa” and what’s to come for her in 2022.
Name one album everyone should have in their collection?
Reasonable Doubt by the great Shawn Corey Carter. Can’t say you love hip hop if you don’t have that.
Give us a little insight into your musical journey. How long have you been creating? Where do you draw your inspiration from?
I come from music. My father is a DJ, my mother and my uncles use to rap. R.I.H. to my uncle Timmy (Tyme-me). I’ve always had a ear for music. I recently picked up playing the Cello. But writing? Writing lyrics is a passion of mine. Rapping on the other hand is new to me. I started just a few years ago due to my own insecurities of being soft spoken. But once I got past that I realized how much more power are in my words. My idol Hov once said, “A poet’s mission is to make words do more work than they normally do, to make them work on more than one level.” And that’s inspires me.
Let’s talk about your upcoming collaboration with Lifted Lofi. What does your creative process looking like when you collaborate?
Big Shoutout to Drel at Lifted LoFi Records. Whenever I collaborate with anyone I go listen to/look at their catalog. Or I ask them what’s their favorite work by them. I love hearing or seeing the true art of an artist. Because then that motivates me. In my experience, when there is great energy circulating a project, that baby gonna BOOM! Can ya dig it?
What’s to come in 2022 for you?
More and more LoFi jams for the coolest critters in the galaxy!! This year was a push for me. Next year is going to be huge! I can’t wait to start getting on stage again!
Listen to the new single, Dusa Dusa out now on Spotify.
There’s something special about Bunny’s jazzy LoFi sound that I can’t wait to continue to watch blossom in the new year and beyond. Make sure you tap into what’s to come here.
